Fashion as a time portal
February 8, 2010
What would modern fashion be with out it’s heavy influence from different cultures? I love the fact that ethnic cultures have all come together to create modern fashion. You can’t go into a store and find a piece of clothing that doesn’t carry a place or time in it’s design. How exciting is that?
In my personal opinion, Egyptian culture is the best culture in which modern fashion has derived. Because of the heated climate, most Egyptian clothing was made with light linen cloths. Jewelery for the Egyptians was essential and was worn from head to toe, including up and down the arm. Jewelery is definetly one of the things I love about being a girl! I love big earrings. Egyptians wore lots of those, but it is said that the Indians were the first to wear earrings that dangled.
(left) Vanessa Hudgens is wearing an outfit that kind of screams Egyptian. I love it! The dress, shoes, and jewelry are all put together perfectly.
Hilary Duff is wearing an Egyptian searab necklace. I even kind of see an Egyptian look in her eye make up.
Indian clothing consist of no hard work. A typical dress for an Indian woman was made with simply pieces of cloth. It was the vivid colors and interesting designs that brought interest to the world of modern fashion. Indian culture also brought about the dangles. Bring on the dangles!

Upper right: Dangles! Yes!
African culture is famous for lively colors and vibrant print. African culture has added a dose of “funky” to modern fashion. For example, why is animal print so popular?
Now I think it’s only right to mention Native American clothing. Because second to Egyptian, it’s my favorite! I love the loose blouses and feather everything! I have earrings and necklaces with feathers on them. It’s really fun. And what about those boots? They should be mine! And please don’t get me started on the amazingness of that purse.
fashion trend of the 80’s
January 21, 2010
Dancers are very practical in their attire. And when they invented a clothing item that would help them warm up, they were starting a fashion trend whether they knew it or not. Fashionistas saw the potential of legwarmers and by the mid ’80’s, they were being worn everywhere and by everyone. Today they are still considered fashionable and look great with skirts, dresses, and over jeans. Go ahead. Take the fashion risk.
You are what you wear
November 1, 2009
Fashionistas all believe one thing: you are what you wear. There’s definitely some truth in this. Here’s some visuals to prove it.
Let’s say you are walking down an aisle in a grocery store and you pass a woman dressed like this:
This woman’s outfit says business. She is looking to look professional for her job in the office. Wouldn’t you say so?
Now you start to move on to the produce aisle and you see a woman searching for the ripest mango. And she’s rocking these shoes and these pants:
The first thing I would know about this woman is that she’s outdoorsy. She probably went hiking with her boyfriend for their first date. haha.
You move on. You reach the cereal aisle and you see a girl picking out some fruity pebbles. And she’s dressed like this:
I would pretty much think this girl is super cute! I would want to shop with her! By this outfit you can tell she has really mastered a pretty, hippie look.
Now use your imagination. Imagine all those different outfits that people are comfortable wearing. What you wear really does say a lot about the kind of person you are. I never really thought about that…until I was in the grocery store the other day. =).
I have one more visual for you. Imagine a girl in the grocery store dressed in these:
Haha I really don’t think I am a fan of wearing pajamas in public. Doesn’t that kind of say, “I don’t care about my looks. I am a grunge”? But what if the pajamas are cute. Because they can be cute! But still, we probably shouldn’t wear them out. Right? =).
(I put in the part about pajamas because of a friend who is a supporter of wearing pajamas anytime, anywhere. I still don’t think it’s a healthy habit though!)
Burberry’s “The Beat” can’t be beat
September 9, 2009
Burberry’s newest fragrance, “The Beat”, is very nice. It’s aroma is very subtle, yet pretty and classy. So I love it and want it, but don’t have it. Haha, why don’t I have it? It’s really expensive. The smallest bottle is running at $65. But my best friend owns it and so whenever I go over to her house, I steal a spray! Right now I am using the fragrance, “With Love”, by Hilary Duff. This fragrance has been out for awhile, so it’s running pretty cheap right now. The last time I checked the price (about two weeks ago) it was $15. The aroma of “With Love” is very striking! So it’s best to spray very lightly.
Another reason why I am really into Burberry right now is because they just hired Emma Watson as a model. I love her look. She is so classy. Here’s a picture of a Burberry advertisement in London. Emma Watson is the model in these photos.
Hair parting tip
August 10, 2009
So the other day I woke up and noticed that my hair had naturally parted in the middle. It was weird! I usually always have it parted to the side. But a change felt nice so I’ve been styling it with my part in the middle. Today I got on instyle.com (I love this site! haha, it has so many great little fun beauty tips) and I found this nice little tip for parting your hair.
“Want instant volume like Frieda Pinto without loading up on products and teasing your tresses? Part your hair on the opposite side that you usually do. Flipping your hair against the direction it normally falls creates an instant lift that lasts all day!”

The right pair for your face
June 11, 2009
I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that I broke my favorite pair of sunglasses. The good news is I get to shop for another pair! This morning I went to instyle.com to read about what kind of glasses would work best with my face shape. Having a round face, Instyle says to avoid glasses with rounded styles but look for some with straight or angular lines that will lengthen the face. Here’s an example.

So what shades will work best with your face shape? Here’s what Instyle has to say.
Square. If your face is square then you should look for rounded frames or circular lenses, both of which will soften the face’s angularity.
Oval. If your face is oval then any style of sunglasses will work. Isn’t that amazing? All you oval faced girls, you are lucky. Here’s Beyonce showing off this fact!
Heart. Those with heart-shaped faces (like Jennifer Aniston) should go with delicate styles. Look for wire or over-sized frames that won’t draw attention to the forehead.
Oblong. If you have a long, oblong-shaped face, it’s best to choose oversize glasses that cover more of the face. In this photo, Liv Tyler’s glasses have extra thickness on the side frames, giving the illusion of more facial width.

Rey Swimwear- cute swimsuits for the summer!
April 1, 2009
Hey girls! Summer will be here soon!! We can start looking for cute swimsuits! Actually, I’ve been looking online at reyswimwear.com. The cool thing about Rey Swimwear is the swimsuits look vintage. Jessica Rey, who designs the swimsuits, says that she gets most of her inspiration from Audrey Hepburn. Jessica explains that the idea for her suits came about when she started to feel half-naked wearing a bikini and then it hit her- she actually was half-naked! It’s really cool because the suits are stylish but don’t make you feel as Jessica puts it, “half-naked”. You should totally check them out!
Here are a few examples of Jessica Rey’s swimsuits.
Hair has never been better
March 11, 2009
Sometimes I wish I lived in the era when women wore fancy dresses, corsets, and gloves. That style of clothing is to die for! Wouldn’t it be amazing to walk out your front door looking like this?
Although there is one thing I do love about living in the modern day; the hairstyles. Hair can say so much and now a days we really know how to make it “speak”. Here’s a few modern day hairstyles to show you what I mean.
