the true meaning of lent – totally worth it.

February 17, 2010

Lent started today! I have always been bad about preparing for it. I usually don’t wait until the last minute to get things done, unless it’s figuring out what my lenten fast is going to consist of. So I read up on some of the meanings of lent, and I can now officially say that my heart is now officially in it! I am going to jot out some reasons why this forty day prepartion for death and resurrection will bring us nothing but happiness.

The cross is coming. It takes the sorrow of the cross to experience the joy of the resurrection. For the next forty days, it’s our privilege to grow closer to Christ on the cross. To wake up each morning, asking ourselves where He is, where the cross is. On Good Friday we should be the ones at the foot of the Cross. How can we get there though, if we do not have the strength? The strength of those who stood at the foot of the cross was only a result of their immense love for Jesus Christ. In these next forty days, fall more in love with Him. Love him enough to follow Him to the cross. Love Him enough to follow Him to the resurrection.

I hope that you didn’t do what I did and waited until the last minute to figure out what your lenten fast will be. If so, that’s okay! I am starting a little late. We can be late together! After all, Christ is still waiting for us. Let’s not keep Him waiting any longer.

Fashion as a time portal

February 8, 2010

What would modern fashion be with out it’s heavy influence from different cultures? I love the fact that ethnic cultures have all come together to create modern fashion. You can’t go into a store and find a piece of clothing that doesn’t carry a place or time in it’s design. How exciting is that?

In my personal opinion, Egyptian culture is the best culture in which modern fashion has derived. Because of the heated climate, most Egyptian clothing was made with light linen cloths. Jewelery for the Egyptians was essential and was worn from head to toe, including up and down the arm. Jewelery is definetly one of the things I love about being a girl! I love big earrings. Egyptians wore lots of those, but it is said that the Indians were the first to wear earrings that dangled.

Hilary Duff is wearing an Egyptian searab necklace. I even kind of see an Egyptian look in her eye make up.

Indian clothing consist of no hard work. A typical dress for an Indian woman was made with simply pieces of cloth. It was the vivid colors and interesting designs that brought interest to the world of modern fashion. Indian culture also brought about the dangles. Bring on the dangles!

African culture is famous for lively colors and vibrant print. African culture has added a dose of “funky” to modern fashion. For example, why is animal print so popular?

Now I think it’s only right to mention Native American clothing. Because second to Egyptian, it’s my favorite! I love the loose blouses and feather everything! I have earrings and necklaces with feathers on them. It’s really fun. And what about those boots? They should be mine! And please don’t get me started on the amazingness of that purse.
