Plaid is back

December 29, 2008

Plaid is back! I’m so excited about this because I love the plaid look. Every Miller Sister loves plaid, especially Marie, who  been wearing it her whole life! Plaid is so flexible. With a pair of jeans a flannel shirt creates the perfect country look, but plaid can just as easily communicate – education (preppie), sophistication, and wealth.

Here’s some more great looks with plaid.

Imagine the world without music (bummer)

December 27, 2008

Music, Music. Imagine the world without music. I am such a dreamer, and I often feel like the world of Narnia and Middle Earth is really what the world should be like. Our lives can seem so mundane in comparison. The other night after a run (or more like a jog in my case) I sat on our drive way and took a look at the sky. The stars were bright, but the clouds screened the sky to create a silk like tent over the whole earth. There I was, just me and my ipod. My music drowned out the sounds of the night and I was suddenly in a world of elves, fairies, kings, and queens.
Music has the power to sometimes turn the ordinary world into one of my fantasy worlds. Sitting there looking up to heaven and listening to a soft lullaby, enchantment reached me through a pair of headphones.
While we’re on the subject of music, here’s another thought. Imagine your life with background music. Wouldn’t that be amazing if you could have your personalized soundtrack playing at all the right moments? For example, the first time you meet the ONE, the sounds of Iron and Wine or maybe a classic like Fred Astaire’s “The Way You Look Tonight” magically fills the room. Aww… Beautiful!

Finally, I just love the feeling of driving down the road blasting music. The whole world makes sense in moments like that.

I really believe God gave us music so we could get a sample of the life to come with Him. Don’t you agree? Until next time, keep listening,

Boots; it’s that time of year

December 27, 2008

While Marie loves the cooler season for its fabulous coats, I rave over boots. Boots are fun and can say a lot too. For example, uggs proclaim, “chill and  comfy”; riding boots say, “unique and fun”; high healed leather boots suggest, “class”; and a funky/colored pair of boots say, “hip and not afraid to take fashion risks”.
Just for fun, here are some of today’s most photographed young ladies and their boots of choice. Let me know what you think!

Pure Fashion

December 25, 2008

I’m really fascinated by fashion. Models, clothing, hair and makeup, and photography, all working together to create an image of beauty and style, can be very cool. But I’ve become increasingly discouraged by the unhealthy way that fashion is being portrayed in our society and ultimately came to the conclusion that it is impossible to be both “fashionable” and a Christian. Fortunately this negative (and wrong) attitude towards fashion was corrected when I was introduced to Pure Fashion, a fast-growing,international program that helps high school girls discover their true femininity through style and virtue.

Two years ago I got involved with our local Washington D.C. area Pure Fashion program. and through it learned much about my dignity as a young woman. It reinforced my commitment to purity by giving me confidence in who I am as a daughter of Christ. Not only does Pure Fashion teach girls how to improve their outer appearance through topics like hairstyling, make-up, table manners, and public speaking, but it also stresses that true beauty involves the whole person, body and soul. I believe that Pure Fashion is doing important work by helping girls live up to their potential as three kinds of models: models of Christ, role models, and fashion models.

Grace’s very sweet sixteenth birthday

December 23, 2008

Last night was so fun! Tess, me, and my friend Cecilia surprised Cecilia’s sister Grace for her 16th birthday. Cecilia took her to Cracker Barrel and little did Grace know that Tess and I were there waiting for her arrival. We had a very nice dinner catching up on each others lives and laughing at Tess’s jokes(she can always put a smile on your face). There is such a cool intimate union between two sets of sisters hanging out that it almost felt like we all became sisters for the night. After dinner Tess and I went back to Cecilia and Grace’s house to sleepover. It was such a gift to have that time with them, and Tess and I were overjoyed to be part of Grace’s birthday celebration. Sweet sixteen is such an exciting birthday! We celebrated Tess’s sweet sixteen on the 27th of November this year, and I remember how excited I was when I turned sixteen. On my sweet sixteen I remember walking up to my room and seeing sixteen candles that my mom had placed on my bed. Mom is incredibly thoughtful and it made my sixteenth even sweeter. In conclusion, last night was amazing, turning sixteen is amazing, and spending time with Grace and Cecilia on Grace’s sixteenth birthday was AMAZING!!

St. Mary’s rocks!

December 17, 2008

Last Wednesday we played for the 7th and 8th grade girls of St. Mary’s school in Alexandria, VA. It was so amazing! The girls were awesome, and they weren’t afraid to sing (and even dance a little). At one point of the show, Marie asked the girls if they had seen High School Musical 3. The response was enthusiastic but did not compare to the girls reaction when I asked if they had seen Twilight. That question got the girls (and me and my sisters) pretty excited! If you’re also a Twilight fan and wondering if there’s going to be a sequel, check out this video.

Modestia – a really cool blog!

December 17, 2008

Hey All!

I was honored with an interview on http://modestia.stblogs.com/, a really cool modesty blogsite, that I love to visit and get fashion updates. My interview is right before some pictures of actor Eduardo Verastegui from the movie ”Bella”. Coincidence or destiny? I am going to go with destiny.

Blessings – Marie

She’s an artistic genius!

December 10, 2008

Bobbi Brown is a make up artist who truly knows how to make a person look beautiful!  A few months ago I was browsing through the beauty section at Borders, and I came across a book entitled “Bobbi Brown Beauty”, I picked it up and it wasn’t long before I became one Bobbi’s dedicated fans.

One of my favorite things about Bobbi Brown is her approach. Her idea of beauty is pure and natural, but at the same time lively and bold. I ended up buying some of her cosmetics and convinced my Mom and sisters to try her make-up too. We like all of Bobbi’s make-up but our favorite is her bronzer (I highly recommend it!). Bobbi’s books are amazing because she shares tips and teaches you how to apply her make-up. If you are looking for some new ideas or just starting to wear make-up you can’t go wrong with BobbiBrown. She definitely knows how to enhance your already beautiful features!

A gift from the girls – Our Lady of Hope Cafe

December 4, 2008

Last night the girls and I played for the youth group girls at Our Lady of Hope Parish in Sterling, Virgina. It was so much fun! All the girls were so sweet and welcoming, the moms there were rocking, and the youth director Jennessa was AMAZING! The girls sang beautifully, making praise and worship truly uplifting. All I can say is that God really gave me a gift last night.

Our God is such a generous giver! Here it is weeks ’till Christmas, and I feel like I am already being showered with presents. I love giving and receiving gifts!  My family does the whole Secret Santa thing, so I picked a sibling out of a hat and now I’m on a mission to find them something special. I’m up for the challenge!

A shout out to all you WONDERFUL girls at Our Lady of Hope!! I hope I hear from you soon!!!

Marie
